After mastering the basic techniques of Lathe Wood Turning, there is the opportunity to work on a specific project– a pen! Using specially prepared turning blanks that have the center drilled out and a mandrel to hold them in place on the lathe, campers carve the wood down to the size and shape of their desired writing implement. After an in depth sanding, staining, and buffing process campers choose a pen kit (the metal components) and carefully assemble their pen using a pen press.
