Mega

Hi there, everyone! Well, at least anyone reading this page. Everyone is a lot of people.

My name is MEGA and I am so very excited to be heading west once again to rejoin the Augusta tribe! I hail from a state that is excessively simple to draw because the borders are 4 straight lines… can you guess which state that might be? Here are a couple more hints: It takes about 17 hours to drive from home to camp and we get more sunshine than San Diego in an average year.

Like I was saying, I am returning to Camp Augusta again this year! I first began my journey into the woods of Lake Vera back in 2009 (holy smokes!) and was at camp as a counselor in 2010, 20112013, and 2016. I was a counselor in both Manzi and Oak, and found my heart in running the CIRCLE Program… in fact, this is the 5th year that I will have run CIRCLE and I love it oh-so-much! Aside from CIRCLE, you’ll most likely find me high up in the trees, as it’s one of my very favorite places at camp. I remember when the high zipline was first built in time for the summer of 2010 and I experienced that feeling of flying through the air… I also like that you can see the surrounding hills from the high zip platform, because it reminds me of my home.

In between my moments at Camp Augusta, I’ve done all sorts of wacky things to feed my wandering soul. I’ve traveled all over the state that I’m from (did you guess it yet?), seeking adventures small, big, and wild among the mountains, rocks, forests, and streams. I’ve spent time abroad in countries like Italy, Greece, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Morocco, Spain, Ireland, England, and France. I got a college degree (technically, that happened before I even landed at Augusta for the first time). I’ve worked at schools, a yoga studio, Whole Foods Market, and shot video for a wedding cinematographer. Can you tell that I love having variety, change, and exploration in my life?

Speaking of weddings, I had my own in the fall of 2015! It was a wonderful, cozy celebration in the mountains near Vail (OK, there’s another hint) with so many amazing friends and family members. We even incorporated a version of an Augustan tradition into the day by lighting a bonfire together with our families. Some other big stuff from the past couple of years is that I got a puppy – Loki! – and also moved up to the mountains from the city to be closer to the scenery and serenity that I dig so much.

Spending time outdoors with friends, my dog, or even by myself is probably my very favorite thing in life. I love climbing to get incredible views, I love wandering beneath the fluttering leaves in a forest of trees, I like getting up early to catch a sunrise and exploring trails before anyone else is out and about. I love to bring along a camera and capture some of the beauty out there. Sitting around a campfire sharing stories is an ideal evening for me and I can’t wait to do all of this with you this summer (particularly with a Lazy Dog cone, yes please)!

A few other fun and odd tidbits about me! I am a master guacamole maker; I rode horses for 11 years while growing up; I have been skydiving one time and LOVED it; I am super interested in food culture and sustainability; my eyes changed color from brown to half green/half brown during high school; I love to read and craft; I started downhill skiing when I was 3 years old; I make lots of weird noises (usually without realizing I’m doing it until it’s too late); I have a weirdly specific memory for random moments in life; my oldest pair of functional shoes is 15 years old; and my real name is Megan, not Mega.

Here’s to enjoying the sweet sounds and sights of the wilderness this summer, and all of the surprises that we create together at Camp Augusta! ‘Til our feet find those prodigal woodchips once more…
