HELLO, my name is KATHERIN MICHELL, however, I prefer to be called by my middle name: Michell. Although my friends and family end up calling me anything and everything as they come up with it; here’s what I can think of: Mich, Kathy, Kate, Katonga, Michelina, K Mitchel, Michi. Maybe when you come to camp you can think of a new nickname to add to the list!

I am 23 years old and have grown in the coast Caribbean Colombian, that’s why if anything involves water, lake, beach, nature, sun, summer… I will love it!

This is my first time in a summer camp and my first time traveling out of my home country, so can you imagine how excited I am? 🙂

I love going to the beach, it’s a place where I can relax. I practice swimming every day, and on weekends I practice kayaking. I also like to practice jet skiing and snorkeling. I really enjoy any activity that is related to water and sea.

I have a bachelor’s degree in Spanish and literature and I have worked in a private school for three years with children. I am passionate about my career because as a teacher I have the privilege of building possible worlds and dreaming with impossible universes.
I am happy being a teacher because every day I learn more than I teach. Being a teacher is the only way to gain everything without losing anything. Whether it’s learning about critical reading in the classroom for understanding and changing reality  or learning more about who I am and who I want to be, I feel that everyday spent with others I walk away everyday with something new.
I am happy to have chosen this profession because I have the opportunity to share with real human beings – with people who make mistakes, who stumble and fall and rise again without surrendering.
I have always worked with children inside of the classroom and for this year I wanted to do something completely different; I wanted to be outside and be myself and Augusta will give me the opportunity to have a fun summer doing what I love: having fun with kids.
I will be in Manzanita Village and there is no doubt that every child that is in contact with me will return home:
  • Knowing a few words in Spanish
  • Knowing that happiness depends on who we are and not on what we have
  • Knowing that I have one eye smaller than the other, is so small that it seems that I was winking
  • Knowing the importance of being a better person every day
  • Knowing that on many occasions when I go to wash my dirty clothes, I throw in the detergent and the water, and I forget to put the clothes in the washing machine.
  • Knowing that whatever you choose to do in your life, no matter what it is, you must do it with love.
I hope to have called your attention and make you feel like meeting me because I am very excited to make this summer the most fun, crazy and inspiring for you or your son or daughter.
