Sofia

Hi everyone!

My name is Sofia and I’m from Zipaquirá, Colombia! I’m 23 years old and this would be my third year working at a camp but my first at Camp Augusta and I’m so excited!!! I’ve been a counselor and a lifeguard in the past and I’ve realized I love camp so much.

The first thing that you need to know about me is that I’m a very easy-going person and I love making new friends. You can talk to me about anything or ask me whatever comes to your mind. If I don’t know the answer I’ll probably make it up and then I’ll help you find the real answer. I always have a smile on my face so that you can feel comfortable approaching me with any inquiry you may have.

A woman kneels and smiles in a grassy field near a lake, with green mountains and a blue sky with scattered clouds in the background. She wears a black cardigan and red top.
A woman with curly hair smiles while performing an aerial split on pink silks in an indoor studio. She is wearing a black sports bra and leggings. The room has white walls, poles, and painted wings on the wall behind her.
A woman does the splits on a wooden railing under a gazebo in a forest, flexing one arm and making a playful face. Trees and greenery are visible in the background.
Two women sitting together on a bus. One is wearing sunglasses and bright red lipstick, making an expressive face, while the other smiles softly. Both are touching their heads with one hand. An empty cup with a pink straw sits in front.

You also need to know that I love being upside down, whether it’s on the silks or the lyra (or the ground). I also love doing things that get my heart beating faster than usual, like some scary drops on the silks. I feel very alive when I’m up there doing things that scare me and I love that I always learn something new.
In case you haven’t noticed, I also love using the word LOVE. It emphasizes how passionate I am about life.

The other day I was looking through my photo gallery and I realized I had too many pictures of me doing the splits on the silks (here are just a few). I know at least 15 different ways to get into a split, so if you wanna learn as many as possible, just ask me and I’ll be happy to teach you 🙂

Here are some fun facts about me:

  • My first name is my date of birth in spanish (NESDI: N nacida E el S siete de DI diciembre (born on december 7th!)).
  • I majored in economics.
  • I can only sleep with socks on.
  • I make the best peanut butter.
  • I once had a lobster as a pet and he lived 3 years. His name was Ricky.
  • I’ve never seen snow.
  • I’ve had the same alarm song for the past 4 years – Iris by the Goo Goo Dolls.
  • I once broke a finger in the Jelly Belly factory when I was playing an interactive game on a screen (If you find the picture where I have a splint, now you know what happened).
  • I once kayaked on a river full of rapids and fell about 5 times due to the difficulty of the river.  It was very scary and challenging but I loved it.
A person wearing a helmet and harness hangs midair on ropes in a forest adventure park, balancing with legs extended on separate ropes among tall trees. Sunlight filters through the leaves.
A person with curly hair smiles at the camera and gives a thumbs-up gesture. They are wearing a dark hoodie with partially visible yellow lettering and are standing in front of a plain white background.

Camp is my safe and happy place. I get to play around and do things that I usually don’t do in my everyday life at home. Camp gives me the opportunity to meet very interesting and unique people and to connect with them in very meaningful ways. I love the smell of creativity and unlimited fun that can only be found at camp. There are endless possibilities in a place that magical, so the question is not why I’m excited to go to camp but why isn’t everybody else?
