Ruthie V-S

  1. Who?
I’m Ruth, but you can call me Ruthie, Rufio or Rufus 🙂
I’m really excited to be flying across the pond to share my first camp experience with you all.
  1. Where?
I originate from the countryside in the west of the middle of England, nearish to Wales. I grew up with my parents, 2 older sisters and our cat- Mr. Pepper. We also cared for and raised chickens, ducks, rabbits, guinea pigs, and a hamster or two.
I lived in my childhood home until I decided to study Occupational Therapy at university, when I was 18, and moved to Sheffield (bit further north in Yorkshire, England), otherwise known as the Steel City.
I graduated with a BSc degree at 21, and then I moved around the UK working, from the main windswept island of the Shetlands, down to Essex, south of England.
During this time I decided I wanted to be a bit more adventurous, so my partner Ben and I started travelling when I was 23…and now I am thrilled to be spending my 27th summer at Camp Augusta!
  1. What?
What do I love?
Being outdoors- camping, walking, road trips, campfires, mountains, forests, seaside, swimming, sun, snow and everything in between
Gardening and growing produce
Wildlife, all the flora and fauna- the crazy critters in trees, on land and in the oceans
Food & cooking- indoors and outdoors, for and with others, savoury and sweet, learning from others and sharing with others
Reading- learning, laughing, creative new worlds
Helping, who I can, through work or volunteer exchange
People- my family mean a lot to me, and I love to spend time with them when I am home
I love that my travels have provided me with friends around the world, and love to see my school and university friends when I am in the United Kingdom, and the fantastic network of exciting and interesting people I know around the globe
Art and craft- I like trying new activities, I’m still exploring what I’d like to spend more time doing, but have enjoyed felting, sewing, card making, macrame, painting, pastels, sketching, silk painting, lino printing, decoupage, paper mache, collage…
I also love art- contemporary and oldie worldie stuff, and architecture. The town I grew up near has fantastic buildings, I would love to show you if you visit Shrewsbury one day!
Travel- since I started university, meeting new people, seeing new places, hearing new languages, new instruments, landscapes, sunsets and sunrises, trying new foods, fruits, seeing new animals, insects and fish, including: France, Slovenia, Portugal, Greece, Dubai, Japan, Indonesia, Australia, New Zealand…
Trying new things, activities, adventures- sky diving, white water rafting, skiing, bungee jumping, zorbing, kayaking luge, rollercoasters, jetboating, riding horses, 4wd, rock climbing…
