‘Do you see the time?! It’s almost summer, quick, get your water bottles filled, your bug spray primed and your sunscreen applied! We’ve got wakeups to experience, pancakes to eat, trees to climb and people to meet!’

<

This was my view of this last summer, I hope to meet many of you either in the treetops zippin’ or the challenge courses climbin’, 3rd year at Augusta, gosh I love the smell of those gigantic Ponderosa Pines!

The maiden voyage of the pole course has happened, we know the obstacles, we know the levels, let’s get ambitious and show the rest of Augusta what aerial agility can look like.

For those of you not in the know, my name’s Robert, most call me Rob, I’m the giant knot nerd who you’ll find on the canopy tour getting you to smell the trees, spot the birds and listen to the ‘pew pew pew’ of me tapping the wire. I’m the high flyer hoping to take a few wannabe corvids to the 120ft heights of the crow’s nest to see camp from a spectacular roost.

Through this past winter I’ve been climbing and teaching, teaching and climbing, route setting and climbing and oh yes, visiting the sunny delights of Nevada, the not so sunny yet still delightful Oregon and the frozen ground but delightfully sunny days of California. Now back home in Ireland for a few months, I’m back to my climbing coaching, inspiring aspiring climbers as young as 6 and as old as 80 to take on new heights of both indoor and outdoor rock climbing.

Just before the new year I visited Dublin for an educational course on accessibility in climbing and high ropes. This fascinating course equipped me with the skills and knowledge to bring climbing to even more people! My hope as you read is that you’ll bring a courageous curiosity for heights at Camp Augusta, be it taking your first who steps up a ladder or giving me your best Tarzan impression on the canopy tour! I’m so excited to share my enthusiasm for the realm of the ropes, I ask you this, can you bring me your enthusiasm to take on the high flying world of the Augusta challenge course? I wanna hear your bird facts, your tree jokes, your candid moments while experiencing the world 60+ft in the air, let’s find joy in the beautiful space between comfort and fear!
