It’s me! In the woods! 🙂

Hello Augustans! My name is Morgan, and this will be my second summer at camp. I’ll be supporting the staff team again this summer as the Wellness Counselor, and I look forward to reconnecting with returning staff as well as meeting all you newbies!

So you can get to know me a little bit better, I’d like to share about my journey to Augusta. My story starts in the great ‘ol state of Alabama where I was born to two parents with serious southern accents. (My friends even nicknamed my dad “Mr. Grits” because of his drawl.) Lucky me, I was born in the 80’s – the greatest decade for cartoon heroes – and I discovered my idol at the impressionable age of 3. Her name was Rainbow Brite, and her mission was to guard color and joy for all the inhabitants of Earth. Galloping across the sky on her regal white stallion, she faced foes with technicolor grace. I fell in love! And I began to discover my mission in life: to be a source of beauty, wisdom, grace and play just like my dear Rainbow!

That’s actually my sister dressed up as Rainbow Brite, but only because I shared my costume! I’m the pumpkin!

Seeking my super hero dreams, I’ve devoted most my life to learning what it means to be a human being. In my younger years, I did my exploration through books. I even majored in Neuroscience in college to get up close and personal with the brain. Yep, that’s right- I’m a MAJOR NERD! Don’t believe me? Check out this comic book I made about Alzheimer’s research. And yep, that’s me dressed up as Hermione being interviewed by the local news at the midnight book release of The Deathly Hallows. How much more proof could you need? 😉

To keep my feet on the ground and my head from exploding, my explorations have also included a healthy dose of nature time. My favorite way to enjoy the outdoors is by backpacking, and some of my fondest memories are of trips in New Zealand, Montana, and the Pacific Northwest. I’ve also shared my love of nature with others as an outdoor educator, wilderness therapy field guide and even a tortoise-tracker in the Mojave Desert!

To keep my spirit as healthy as my mind and body, I’ve cultivated a strong relationship with yoga and meditation. I completed a 200 hour yoga teacher training in 2011, and I’ve delved into specialized trainings in prenatal yoga, yoga for trauma and yoga for youth. As often as I can, I take workshops and trainings with my teachers who never fail to inspire me to challenge myself to become a stronger, wiser and more graceful human. Fun fact: I once sat silently for 10 days of Vipassana meditation at a temple in Thailand! I’ve also gone without food and shelter for 3 days in the wilderness on a vision quest… and I met a MOUNTAIN LION!

Now that you know a bit about me, there’s someone else I’d like you to meet. He’s the fluffiest, cuddliest, goofiest man in my life, and his name is Blue! He’s about 2 years old, and I rescued him last fall from a local animal shelter. He loves good pets, chasing squirrels and playing in the creek, and he can’t wait to meet you this summer!

Well, that’s my story for now… I can’t wait to hears yours! 🙂
