K8

Greetings, wonderful humans!  I’m Kate, comin’ at’cha from a land called Kalamazoo!  Kalamazoo is in Michigan, so I’ve always been a little fish.  Water is one of my strongest loves.  It’s my favorite drink, you can play in it, cook with it, it helps things grow, and it’s soothing and healing.  When there are multiple individual drops of water, it creates a stronger force, much like humans!

Two children in coats and boots walk along a sandy beach near the water’s edge. In the background, theres a pier with a lighthouse at the end. The scene appears calm and overcast.

This is me and my brother at my favorite beach on Lake Michigan.  He’s 13 and my absolute favorite human on this planet (most other planets, too!)  His name is Tabor, which means “calm presence” which is pretty silly because he’s full of energy.  Much unlike me, he’s a genius at all things involving technology.  I actually have an aversion to screens.  I prefer to read bound books and write letters rather than e-mails and posts on social media sites.  Tabor’s a huge jokester and is always crafting something for me to try in the kitchen…unfortunately, these two things go hand-in-hand more often than I’d like.  We love to build forts together and watch Harry Potter while sipping on some of the potions he’s made up for us.

A person stands atop a rocky cliff while another climbs halfway up. The scene is set in a forested area by the edge of a body of water, with trees and rugged rocks visible in the background.

I’m terrified of heights, but I’m working hard to get over that fear!  This is me (blending in with the trees) and my best friend, Beatrice (on the side of the cliff).  She’s a fearless lady (she fights forest fires!) and she inspires me to step outside of my comfort zone.  It took me half an hour to jump off of this cliff-but I did it!  I love to explore new places and try new things even if it’s initially scary.  Pushing the boundaries of comfort is extremely important to me.  It’s a wonderful catalyst for growth.  Please encourage me to do so at camp!

I also think that creating is essential.  I absolutely love collaborative projects.  Everyone has unique, outstanding brains and the more that are put together, the more beautiful a thing becomes.  Some of my favorite collaborative projects that I’ve been a part of have been creating a kingdom in the woods, group collages, and making a movie!

A group of seven people walk away on a dry, grassy field toward distant mountains under a cloudy sky, with a town visible in the background.

These humans are very dear to my heart.  This is in Missoula, Montana when we were shooting a scene for a movie we made! It was one of the longest projects I’ve been a part of and there was such a sweet sense of shared accomplishment once we finished editing it and got to watch it on the big screen together.  Please think of some things that multiple craniums can create together while at camp!

As you’ve learned, water is my favorite drink.  My favorite food: TOMATOES!  I love to play in the kitchen.  Pasta dishes are an essential item on K8’s menu.  As well as sandwiches, burritos, french fries, and fake sushi.  The fake part of it is because I’m a vegan!

A person wearing sunglasses and a black outfit stands on a log over a flowing stream, surrounded by rocks and sparse vegetation, with trees in the background.

I call this duo a “naturrito”.  Eating outside is an amazing luxury and I’m so stoked to have that privilege at camp!  I’m a huge fan of picnics, tea parties in magical lands, and bringing bites on boat adventures.

A woman with shoulder-length hair sits barefoot on a rock, smiling, with pine trees and a calm lake in the background under a blue sky.

This is me on my road trip to camp!  I’m thinking about how excited I am to be with all of you lovely creatures this summer.  So stoked to share stories, belly aches from laughter, creative musings, this land, and the unexpected with you.  I can’t wait to see what shenanigans we get into!
