Jorge

Hola! Humanos, (Hello! Humans)

My name is Jorge, although I like it when people give me a nickname, so feel free to come up with your own. By the time you read this I will be 24 years old and embarked in a new crazy adventure. Something 21-year-old Jorge would have deemed insane. To give you more context, I decided to leave my secure job working for the state of Arizona, my closest friends and family to do more of the things I like and do them differently.  One of them was to be a counselor or be a part of a camp again. This is my first year at Camp Augusta and I could not be any more excited! More specifically, I am one of the Cedar counselors and let me tell you there is so much to look forward to. The Sky’s the limit (we’ll go into outer space if we must). I look forward to playing, dancing, get messy, to be away from the city, and live worry free, to be a kid again. I can’t wait meeting you and having the summer of our lives! Get ready to laugh, cry, be inspired and most importantly, have noodles of fun!  Once camp is over, I’ll jump over to Italy to rome (Pun intended) the streets and explore the country. My plan is to backpack up and down the boot shaped country indulging in pastas, gelato, the beautiful cities, beaches and amazing people. Why is he doing this you may ask? That’s a question I frequently ask myself too. To cut it short, I believe we need to push ourselves to get out of our comfort zones, face fears and enjoy life! Live, play and sing more!

Cool cool cool cool cool, so where are you from J-Dawg?

I grew up in Yuma, Arizona a small town near Mexico. Having family on both sides meant I constantly crossed the border learning to balance different cultures, traditions and lifestyles. Fun fact- I have dual citizenship.

After high school I moved to Tucson, Arizona to study at the University of Arizona. I graduated with a B.A of science in Family Studies and Human Development.

So what does J-dawg do for fun?

The secret is to make everything you do fun. Not every moment can be a blast, but if you look at the positive in things and do the things you like, fun comes naturally. In regards to what I do on my down time? Well, I own six instruments and although I’ve never mastered any of them, you can probably find me messing with them and playing random melodies. I’ve learned to play different instruments since I was nine years old. Playing music is definitely the best medicine for me. Since I’ve been traveling more and more, I’ve gotten into photography. I don’t know much yet, but I get a special feeling every time I take a cool looking picture so I know I’m going on the right direction. Videography is something I’ve been eyeballing for a while now.

Rock climbing is something I am trying to do more and more. It’s an amazing sport that requires mental and physical strength (not a fan of heights). With that, It is an awesome way to get out of my comfort zone. I am looking forward to climbing around Camp Augusta and learning the ropes (pun intended.)

Well Friends, I do have to go now. I look forward to meeting and seeing each and every one of you. Here are some pictures so you get a better feel for who I am.
