Francesca

Two girls with braided hair wearing gray t-shirts stand together and smile in front of a wooden wall. One girl is wearing shorts and the other is in pants.

My name is Francesca, but you guys can call me Franny. I’m 21 years old from Miami Beach, Florida. I have previously been a counselor for 3-4-year-olds at a day camp. I was an enthusiastic camper for around 8 years in North Carolina, where I created some lasting memories.

I’m an environmental science major who is super passionate about pretty much everything having to do with biology. I became interested in becoming an env major after learning about the mineral mining in the boundary waters of Minnesota while on an outward-bound canoeing trip.

Injustice against the planet just doesn’t sit right with me so I hope to one day make a difference as an environmental lawyer. I am a major traveler; I go to a university in Switzerland where traveling is literally a part of the curriculum! This semester I’m going to Capo Verde an archipelago off the coast of Senegal for a marine ecosystems course.

In the meantime, I fill my days with music, yoga, and reading. Anytime I look a little too concentrated staring at my phone there is probably a book involved (or math). I practice yoga daily to get my mornings started and run the yoga club at my school (I’m proud to say we have the highest attendance record amongst clubs). I coincidentally am also the president of the book club (much lower attendance than yoga, crazy right?). I’m so excited to work at Camp Augusta this summer to try and recapture the incomparable joy of camp life while spreading it to the campers!

Two people stand on a rocky hilltop with arms outstretched, enjoying the sun and mountain view. Snow-capped peaks, blue sky, and patches of grass are visible in the background.

I don’t have much formal experience working with children, but I do have around 15 younger cousins, nieces, and nephews so informally I’ve been through the wringer.

While at camp I hope your children develop the skills to feel confident in all they do while discovering a sense of self. If I were your child’s counselor, I would make sure that they let loose and rediscover a sense of play while at camp. I have golden retriever tendencies so your campers will never be bored.
