Elyce

G’day from the land down under, heres your typical Aussie sheila coming to teach everyone the art of wrangling a croc!

My names Elyce, Elly, Ellyjay or what I prefer, simply, El, and I’m coming to camp for my first ever summer all the way from Australia! What is it like living in Australia? I grew up in the smaller town of Geelong, an hour out of the big buzzing city of Melbourne.

Geelong is the halfway point between Melbourne and the famous great ocean road which is my personal favourite thing about Geelong, I get the best of both worlds by experiencing the city life and being a costal bum!

As an Australian child who lives near the coast, it is a part of tradition to throw your youngin’ into the ocean and hope the water gods bestow them with the gift of swimming. Luckily, I am here to tell the tale of how I was recklessly thrown into the ocean and formed the ability to frolic and play within some of the most beautiful waves this land holds.

Unfortunately, the gods did not bestow me the gift of surfing, which I am devastated about (apparently you need to be able to balance to surf?!) so instead of making a career out of living in the water, I decided to study my next biggest passion, child care!

At the ripe young age of 18, I was yet again thrown into another world (seriously, what is with all this throwing!) and I entered the world of a professional career as an early childhood educator.

Child care sparked something within me that is indescribable, for the past 5 years I have been working 5 days a week, 8 hours a day with children aged 0-5, when you spend that much time with children who are only as tall as your waist, you start to appreciate how wonderful and amazing the world is to someone who is only just starting out.

As an adult, you forget how blissful and simplistic life can be, child care has taught me to look at the world through the gaze of someone who is only 2 feet tall! I am now a master in horrible tone deaf, loud and passionate singing (I sure know how to sing my A,B,C’S) Dress up? Bring it on! Ask me about the tale of the very cranky bear, its one of my personal favourites!

“But Elyce, this all sounds so amazing, why on earth are you leaving to come to summer camp?!” Well guys, to answer your question, I love adventure! And what perfect way to start an adventure than to come hang out with everyone at camp Augusta! Eventually I plan to come back and study mental health and work with youth, but first I need some good tales and stories so get ready camp Augusta to create some amazing fun!

What are some fun facts about this crazy Aussie Elyce?

I’m a vegetarian! I’ve been a vegetarian for 8 years now.

My favourite animal is a shark! A great white shark to be exact.

My favourite dinosaur is a velociraptor.

I have a bucket list! So far I’ve already sky dived, and I’ve scuba dived in an aquarium!

Who loves random useless facts? This girl! Please come and tell me your most crazy fun random fact, and I’ll share mine.

My favourite vegetable is eggplant, I’m crazy for eggplant, if I could, I would live purely on an eggplant parmigiana for every meal for the rest of my life.

I train twice a week in boxing, it’s a fun and different way to keep fit and active.

My most favourite holiday has been a trip to Dubai! I spent 2 weeks there and loved every second of it.

I secretly have a personal mission to touch and meet every species of animal on this world.

If I could change one thing about myself, I’d grow a pair of wings so I could spend my life flying around the world without worrying about a plane ticket to take me there.

I can not wait to share my first ever American summer with everyone and bring you my 2 foot tall perspective to camp!
