Hi! I’m Shaima (pronounced Shy-ma, but I promise I’m not shy).
I’m currently a graduate student at UNLV studying Management Information Systems. Most people come to Las Vegas for the parties I came for graduate school and technical studies. Not the typical Vegas storyline, I know. Before grad school, I completed my undergraduate degree in
Law, so I’ve spent a lot of time around structure, rules, and organized systems. I genuinely enjoy bringing order to chaos and figuring out how things can run more smoothly. But outside of academics and office work, I’m much more relaxed and creative. I love baking it’s one of my favorite ways to unwind. There’s something comforting about measuring ingredients, mixing everything together, and turning simple things into something sweet. If camp ever needs a baker, I volunteer.
My friends also insist that I’m a very funny person. I don’t always plan to be it just kind of happens. I love making people feel comfortable, and sometimes that comes with random jokes at the perfect moment. One of the biggest reasons I’m excited to be at camp is because I genuinely love being around kids. They don’t overcomplicate things the way adults do. They give you honest, pure answers. They say what they mean. There’s something refreshing and grounding about that kind of authenticity, and I think I can learn a lot from it.
I’m coming to Camp Augusta because I wanted something that feels real, a place where responsibility and heart go together. I’m excited to help keep things organized behind the scenes while also being fully present with campers, listening to their stories, laughing with them, and being part of their summer memories. What do I hope campers get from being around me? I hope they feel comfortable being themselves. I hope they feel heard. And I hope they leave with at least one story that makes them smile years later.
When you meet me, ask me this: If you could bake one dessert that represents your personality, what would it be and why?
