Stephanie

Hi There! I’m Stephanie and you’re about to get to know some things about me!

I guess the first thing to say is that I’m from Brazil! On this first photo I’m hugging nothing less than one Brazilian icon, a caramel mixed-breed dog.

I grow up in an inner city of the state of São Paulo. In a house with a big garden, which gave me and my sister a lot of opportunities to play outside. One of our favorite activities was what we used to call the “rotten guava war” it was really fun, we tried really hard to escape from the guavas that we were throwing each other

I work in a primary school, called Photon, It’s near enough to my house so I go work by bike almost every day. I love working there as a teacher assistant, helping teacher Bruna with the class, she’s an amazing teacher, I learned a lot with her. The thing I enjoy the most is seeing they learning new things and improving it. Here are some pictures from the last year working at photon, half of the year I worked with teens from 12 to 15 years, and the other half of the year with kids from 3 to 5 years old.

I’m a truly nature-passionate person, and this is one of the things that makes me so excited for our summer! I’m cheering to meet not only you but also a lot of different plants, bugs, fungi, and whatever uses Camp Augusta as a home! Having said this, I take this opportunity to add that I’m in my final year of the Biology course!

See this moss texture, it’s so pleasurable!

Here’s a picture that I took that represents very well the Atlantic forest, it’s really humid, and a lot of the trees have epiphytes attached to their trunks. Those are covered with mosses, fern, and bromeliad (the one that’s with a red flower).

Here we have a really fairly magical spider house! She made a door that looks like a hobbit door/house.

Here is part of the didactic garden of the biology department of my university!

Last year one Maritaca showed up in my garden, she was weak and undernourished. Maritacas are really loud and sociable. I took care of her till she got strong enough to go to a sanctuary (she couldn’t be released cause she didn’t know how to fly and she have an old fracture on her tail)

Another special creature that showed up was this baby owl, she grew up and still living on our mango tree, she even invited some friends that now live with us.

Goin’ to the sanctuary, she didn’t accepted going anywhere less than on my shoulder.

That’s my family! From left to right, it’s me, my mother, my father, and my sister. My mother is a Math teacher, my father makes jam and my sister is majoring in psychology in may! She’s the main reason we are going to meet each other at camp! After those four years, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to finally visit her, honor her graduation, get to know her friends, the city where she lives, places that she likes there.

Here is Daniel! He is my boyfriend. We met while we were in university, he made architecture and urbanism there, we have been partners for almost 4 years. I like the way he sees the world, the points he shares in conversations, his sense of humor and I admire how talented and creative he is. He works as illustrator (in the second photo he is drawing Hagrid from Harry Potter) and architect.

Those are my parents, and that’s my favorite picture of them, they were chilling after Sunday lunch.

Nê, he’s extremely sweet but he loses himself when he’s angry like in that picture, he attacked one hedgehog (ouriço chaveiro). It was really hard to take out all of those thorns from him.

That’s my fish, he’s the sweetest and needier than you could ever imagine! He likes to be petted, sometimes he hides in his burrow and just comes out after I put my hand inside the water to pet him. His colors vary according to how illuminated my bedroom is but mostly according to his mood.

Ralph, he’s the one that I have a stronger connection with, he’s like a little big baby, and that’s because of his long legs that make the looks like he is always using high heels. He has the most beautiful eyes that I ever saw. He makes me up almost every morning, calling me to pet with a crying sound to go pet him on my window.

Jean Pierre is the coolest one. He climbs the Wall of the house to go fool around with his dog friends. He is really good  at taking advantage of any second of inattention from my family part to escape, he can even climb trees to make it happen. Here is he looking to the street, probably seeing if there’s something interesting going on!

My favorite type of grass, like a shaggy rug, is really soft and gently hugs your feet.

Pick guava from the tree for my dad to make jam, my favorite jams are made by him, he’s an expert.

After picking acerola from the tree Thor threw himself on me to be petted. He was really sweet and persuasive to get what he wanted, barking loudly till it happens. He was a really big dog so at some point, he started having difficulties walking, but always tried to keep up with us, complaining and asking us to wait for him to get up when he where moving to another space.

I also work as a meliponiculture (it is apiculture but with our native bees instead of Apis mielifera, they don’t have sting!) my colonies are from the species Melipona quadrifasciata, their popular name is Mandaçaia which means “pretty guard” cause there’s always one beer at their entry.
