Batik . . . the process of making designs using wax relief.  Clear as mud, eh?  🙂  Take some hot wax, put it in a special pen, draw your design on cotton fabric, and then dye the fabric.  The wax resists the dye, and creates the design.  The dye can be painted on, or the fabric dipped into the dye.

Unlike tie dye, you can create finer details and more intricate designs.  However, tie dye and batik can be combined, to create some fine design within a large color pattern!
