Jack Mc

What’s the craic, Camp Augusta!

My name is Jack Mc Donnell. I am a 19 year old lad from the south of Ireland in county Waterford. This will be my first year as a camp counsellor and I am so excited/nervous to join the team and meet everyone. I decided to join camp Augusta as I love being outside and exploring new things. Having grown up on a farm with lots of cousins is a big reason why I love playing around outside and trying new activities. I always try new things and I also love to climb trees or anything of the sort.

I am currently a first year student studying commerce in the University of Galway (pronounced gawl-way). I am unsure what the future holds but I hope it treats me well. My main goals in life are traveling the world, getting a great job or even creating my own business and hopefully having a family of my own. But who knows, life is weird, so we’ll see how it goes.

My favourite thing to do is probably to play hurling which is a traditional Irish sport and a part of the GAA (the Gaelic Athletic Association) but also the greatest sport to ever exist. It involves a wooden stick shaped somewhat like a hockey stick and a small ball. It would take too long to explain the whole sport but if you have time I would recommend looking at a video of a game on youtube and see what you think. I also played sports such as soccer and basketball. I love anything physically challenging, especially team sports. I also have been going to the gym for the last 3 or 4 years which has given me a lot more confidence in myself.

Other hobbies I have include listening to music, playing guitar as of recent, playing with my 2 beautiful dogs who I’ll miss so much and also swimming or just being in the water in general. I also just love spending time with my friends and doing anything with them.

I have worked many jobs in my life, from babysitting to bartending, farm work of course and also working in an agriculture store. I love to help out whenever possible and would do any job I am offered if I have the time. I have also worked in a soccer summer camp for a week in my local club which was great fun.

I hope to give the children in my cabin and all over camp an unforgettable summer and make it as much of an unforgettable experience for them as it will be for me. I will make sure everyone is being treated fairly and that no one feels left out and hopefully we have an incredible time.

I think that’s all from me – can’t wait to meet everyone at camp!
