Grace

I think the only way I can properly introduce myself is in the wise words of Faith Hill, “She’s a wild one, with an angel’s face, she’s a woman child in a state of grace.”

Hi everyone!! My name is Grace and I am going to be one of your counselors at Camp Augusta this summer!! Growing up, my mom used to always sing “Wild One” by Faith Hill to me, saying that this song perfectly encapsulates who I am and who I am going to be. What’s so wild about taking life head on and living it to the fullest? In my opinion, nothing!

My current stomping grounds are in San Diego, CA. I am attending Point Loma Nazarene University, where I am studying Business Management, with a concentration in Global Business. I absolutely love to travel and my is goal to visit every country in the world at some point in my life! I had the amazing opportunity to travel abroad last fall on a boat. If you know anything about the TV show, Suite Life on Deck, that’s basically what I did. I traveled to 12 different countries, and living the suite life was definitely the best experience of my life.

I am a first generation college student, being the only person in my whole family tree to attend college. I plan on graduating early in December, and one day, in the near future, I hope to go to law school and become a lawyer. In the words of Faith Hill, again, “she has future plans, and dreams at night, they tell her life is hard, she says that’s all right.” I am a dreamer at heart and I am living with the intention of pursuing my dreams no matter how difficult they may be. I never let the fear of the unknown scare me away from a good challenge.

Even though I live in San Diego now, my roots are in Loomis, CA. I am a small-town country girl at heart, and I absolutely love the wilderness and nature. In Loomis, I live on a little farm with 5 horses, 4 cats, 10 dogs, and 1 goat named Bill. I crave adventure and the outdoors. I spent most of my childhood riding horses, competitive swimming, and climbing trees in my backyard. I have now upgraded to surfing, hiking, and climbing trees everywhere now that I live by the beach. I always need to be out in nature any opportunity I get!

This is my first year with Camp Augusta and I couldn’t be more excited to be a part of this family! I have worked at summer camps before while I was in high school, doing Vacation Bible School with my church, St. Peter and Paul, and Camp Troubie with my school, St. Francis Catholic High School.

One of the greatest pieces of life advice was given to me by one of my campers while I was at Camp Troubie. She came to me every single morning and said, “Smile! Today is a good day!” One morning I asked her, “What if you don’t want to smile everyday because it’s not a good day?” She then responded, “Even if I’m not having a good day, I still smile at someone because then at least they’ll have a good day.” I have carried that conversation with me every single day, and it has helped me live my life with a new sense of joy and appreciation for those around me. It’s something that I believe everyone should hold dear to their hearts because smiles are contagious and are a whole lot more powerful than you might think!

With that being said, I can’t wait to see all of you smiling with me at camp this summer!!
