Danny

Hello everyone! My name is Daniel Guzman, but feel free to call me Danny. Danny is so much easier for me and its definitely somethingI experienced sinceI was a little boy. I am so excited to present myself to you all, and hopefully we can have a great time this summer and make it one  to remember! I am from a small suburb in northern Illinois near the border of Wisconsin. For all of you who have been to Six Flags Great America in Illinois,I am only 25 minutes away! I love my hometown, it’s small but it’s cozy and it is definitely less hectic to the Chicago environment I have during the school year, but it’s a town that fills me with a lot of peace and tranquility.

This will be my first summer here at Camp Augusta and I am eager to share this experience together! There is so much to learn out there and I for one am excited to get the chance to do that alongside all of you.

Some fun facts about me!

  • My favorite team is F.C Barcelona, and will do anything for that team!
  • Tennis is one of my favorite sports to play, it’s safe to say my forehand and backhand are in good shape
  • I also love playing soccer in my free time, it’s also good for the heart!
  • I have a little dog named Archie and I adore this dog, we have so much fun whenever we walk and play outside; he’s just like his owner!!
  • Spider-Man will always be the greatest superhero in my eyes, I’m a HUGE fan and I have seen every film.
  • I am a huge family person, they are thepeople Iammost passionate about and they are the ones I do everything for
  • I enjoy being in the outdoors!! Whether it’s sports, taking a walk, hiking or sunbathing, I am all for it!

I am 21 years old, and to this day it is so crazy for me to believe sometimes. My birthday is on June 26th, and I am so ready to celebrate my 22nd birthday with you all and have a great time! I personally love having a summer birthday, and with enough luck you might catch one of the most beautiful sunny days  summertime has to offer. Happiness and cheer is in the air, birds are chirping and the sun shines at its brightest, what isn’t there to love about summer.

The University of Illinois at Chicago is the school I attend where I currently am studying Psychology! I chose this profession because I have always felt great pleasure helping people and interacting with others, I want to be able to  show compassion and peace to others, and I hope one day I can be of help to anyone and everyone. I will graduate wit a bachelors degree this December of2023! I am so excited to walk the stage and continue my future plans. I hope to commence my graduate school application process to receive my masters degree in order to learn, improve, and progress on my social and psychological skills.

Some of my hobbies include playing soccer and tennis on my free time. I am part of the tennis club here at my university and I am also involved in the intermural soccer leagues that play all year round with other fellow peers at the school. Occasionally I enjoy a nice evening out with friends to catch a movie, play some pool or even engage in conversation on a lunch out, it’s good to relieve a little stress here and there especially after working so hard.

I am also a member of the Latinos in psychology alliance here at my school where we meet up from time to time and have group talks, or also have events where can receive the proper resources to achieve in the field. I have also spent a lot of time helping out and volunteering at my local church, even by  doing the smallest things possible bring me joy, even if it means something as small as collecting the offers and donations to the church during mass.

Why did I choose Camp Augusta? Well it was pretty easy to choose, Camp Augusta offers a new dynamic and look into what it means to interact with human beings. All this, while also being able to have fun during the process of it, in a beautiful setting filled with many people. These are all people who know so much, and can teach me a lot how to succeed in this position. Everyone here is well equipped and prepared to deal with day-to-day interactions that will not just benefit us but everyone working and attending camp. What I hope to get out of this experience working this camp is to really grow on my skills and grow into a more compassionate, understanding and communicative person. Although you will learn and experience a lot from me, I hope to learn as much from you guys!

I look forward to meeting so many more new people and making so many friends. I want to be able to share this great summer time with you all, and since you all know how I feel about summer, to me it’s the best time in the year so what better way to fill it with the best people possible!

Although this is my first summer here at camp Augusta, I have worked at another summer camp back home in Illinois. I was a summer camp counselor working with five-year-old kids engaging in many activities, teaching beginner swimming lessons, and even dud supervising on a bus to ensure the safety of the passengers. I had a great time with the kids and made sure they have a memorable experience, because at the end of the day it’s all for the kids. I enjoyed this experience at the summer day camp because it allowed me to really learn that I want to work with people, and that I have the capability to interact while having fun in the most healthy and best way possible.

So how will I stand out from the others here at Camp Augusta? Well I feel that I offer a great new perspective into interacting with others, and I have a great sense of humor. I enjoy letting loose and having fun when best appropriate. I want to make sure that I can make this process of growing and learning as best as I can! I hope to bring lots of high energy and lots of compassion to the table. I like to believe I am a open minded person who is willing to listen to so many diverse experiences, and am someone who can always be here to listen if anything occurs, no matter what it is. I am a strong willed and determined person, with the work ethic of an ox ,and I hope to bring that here at Camp Augusta.

P.S. Do not hesitate to ask me about music! I can listen and talk about music all day long, and I can’t wait to hear what song recommendations you all have for me!
