Delaney

Hello Hello! I am so excited to begin my first year at Camp Augusta! I go by Delaney. Some of my friends call me Del, but I respond to pretty much anything. I am a camp kid through and through. I spent my summers at a camp in Massachusetts, and I loved every minute of it. It was through camp that I found my love for the outdoors. Being a city kid, the wilderness was a whole different world than the one I was used to.

A woman playfully mimics the pose of a nearby bronze statue in a museum with ornate cream-colored walls and skylights. A yellow bag sits on the floor next to her.
Two young women sit on the grass outdoors, laughing together. One wears a blue shirt and gray shorts, while the other wears a black shirt and red shorts, holding a metal pot. Camping gear is scattered around them.

My friend and I cracking up about my ‘dough baby’ while trekking through the Grand Tetons.

A smiling person in a black jacket and beanie sits in a car, holding a fluffy white and tan puppy. Trees and parked cars are visible through the window on a cloudy day.

I call Boston my home. I am currently in university for speech-language pathology. I hope to become a speech therapist after graduating and work with kids. Through my university, I work at the local preschools with Jumpstart, a national language and literacy program. My favorite part of the week is going to read with the kiddos, although fingerpainting is a close second. I am also on my school’s debate team for medical ethics. Every year, the BioEthics Bowl brings together various universities to discuss the current ethical dilemmas in the field of healthcare and health science. I love meeting with the different teams because it is always so interesting to hear other people’s perspectives on such complex topics. It’s so much fun!

A smiling woman holds a copy of John Steinbecks East of Eden with a cover showing a tree silhouette at sunset; behind her hangs a tote bag with the same book cover design.

Here’s me with my favorite book of all time: East of Eden. I love all things John Steinbeck! This clearly makes me an easy person to buy gifts for.

A group of eight smiling young adults stand close together outdoors, making “W” shapes with their fingers and posing for a cheerful group selfie.

Here’s my team representing Worcester State. Go Lancers!

Besides nerding out, I also love to read, hike, and listen to music. I got a record player for my birthday, so I just started collecting records. If there is a thrift store, flea market, or garage sale within a 10-mile radius, I will be found rifling through the vinyls. If I am not busy hunting for records or reading, then I am 99.5% likely hanging out with my pup, Finny. He is my bff and the world’s best cuddler.

Words cannot even express how pumped I am for this summer. The bonfires, stargazing, team chants- I’m in love with it all. I can’t wait to meet everyone and make some memories. Adventure awaits!!

Two people in black rain jackets smile for a selfie on a windy, rainy day at the Cliffs of Moher, with dramatic cliffs and ocean waves in the background.

My sister and I at the Cliffs of Moher when we went back home to Ireland. The wind was so bad that day that people were walking backwards and even crawling to avoid getting swept off. It was insane!!

A smiling woman in a colorful scarf holds a Mandrake root prop in a greenhouse setting with lush plants and vines in the background.

Here’s me absolutely cheesing with my screaming mandrake. I got to go to the Harry Potter Studios in London when I studied abroad, and as you can see here, I was wicked excited.
