Hi! My name is Luke Harper. I am 29 and I am a Recreation Enthusiast. This will be my second summer time at Camp Augusta, I am gong to be the Village Leader for Pine! I am very passionate about outdoor education because I believe it is the key to changing views on how and why we need to protect and respect out environment. I have studied Outdoor Education in The English Lake District. Here are some quotes to better inform you of the area.

“Oh the Lake District’s lovely. Let’s go there. We can eat scones. They do great scones in 1927.”

Doctor Who

“The loveliest spot that man hath found.”
William Wordsworth

“I climbed the dark brow of the mighty Helvellyn, Lakes and mountains beneath me gleamed misty and wide;”

Sir Walter Scott

“The fleeting hour of life of those who love the hills is quickly spent, but the hills are eternal. Always there will be the lonely ridge, the dancing beck, the silent forest; always there will be the exhilaration of the summits. These are for the seeking, and those who seek and find while there is still time will be blessed both in mind and body.”

Alfred Wainwright

In the future I would like to sail to the Cook Islands. I would also like to spend some time in Scandinavia. I love trying new things and this year I would like to learn to fly a kite and then use those skills to try kite surfing, then killer combo… Kite Skiing!

I am so pleased and excited to be spending time with you all at the one of kind, world famous and renowned, much celebrated, illustrious and glittering, legendary Camp Augusta!

I am excited to learn some new arts and crafts skills and try my hand at some circus skills. I want to have a try at rock climbing and play some music. I also hear the food is really good. My favourite flavour ice cream is razzleberry, my second favourite flavour is clotted cream and carrot and my third fave flave is double backflip, chocolate-chocolate, salted caramel, chocolate orange and oreo.

I really like being in the outdoors, I think the out of doors is great! You just can not beat being outside and hanging out.  I am passionate about rock climbing and mountaineering as sports, art forms and as a way of life. I have mountaineered, climbed, cycled, skied and canoed my way around the United Kingdom, Europe, North Africa, South Asia and the U.S.A. I have an appreciation of Kurt Hahn’s concept that intense experience surmounting challenges in a natural setting, through which an individual builds his or her sense of self-worth will lead to a group coming to heightened awareness of human interdependence and all grow in concern for those in danger and need. Additionally I echo Colin Mortlock’s ideas in his book The Adventure Alternative and understand the importance of integration of environmental awareness into adventure education.

I have been working with children and young adults for quite a while. For the last six summers I have been working at a summer camp in northern California and I loved it!

I hope that all the campers that attend Camp Augusta find a place where they can try new things, laugh a lot and experiment in a safe, supportive and inclusive environment.

I have been at Camp Augusta last year and ever since I set foot on the magical lands I have thought about it every day!

Below are some photos of me and my family and friends and me and some of me outdoorsing.

Thanks for reading and I look forward to seeing you this summer!

Okay – Secret Time!

I was walking down a river side the other day and I saw a really bright shining light it seemed out of place so I went to investigate. It was a wizard with a huge beard, sunglasses and a long robe. She said “Here take this, it is a map to a GALACTIC TREASURE.” She slapped a scroll in my hand. She said “X marks the spot!” with that she flew away to Denmark. I was stunned but upon closer inspection it was a map of northern California. There was an ‘X’ and it was right over Camp Augusta! I am not only just coming for the ice cream, rock climbing and dancing! I am coming to recruit a team of people and animals to quest out this Galactic Treasure! So read up on your danish wizard maps as there is a quest afoot. There is a hero in all of us and perhaps you are the hero we need!
