Nadja

Hey everyone!

My name is Nadja but recently a lot of my friends are calling me Nads so feel free to pick and choose, or why not come up with your own nickname? I moved to Australia about 3 years ago and here everyone’s real name is turned into a nickname. So if your name is Emma then will call you Ems or if your name is David they will call you Davs. I still  haven’t figured out why this is although I have also started to do this with my non-australian friends. (waaah the curse of Australian slang).

22 years ago, on a warm autumn day in September I arrived to Earth, in a small and usually quite cold country called Sweden. In Sweden there are polar bears walking around on the streets and you take your reindeers to school. During winter you barley see the sun for more than 3 hours a day and after a six months long winter you can imagine that you feel a bit confuse when the sun decides to to come back.  There is a lot of sneezing happening when this happens. Maybe it is me, I get really sneezy when the sun is extremely bright. In Sweden everyone is either called Sven or Elsa; just like in Frozen. Unfortunately not all of use have magic powers and live in ice castles. I did however live in a house that looked similar to a Greenhouse and in winter I really enjoyed sitting next to the fireplace while looking out of the massive windows. It was breathtaking, Mother Nature is awesome!

(there is LOOOOTS of snow in Sweden)

Let’s go back to that warm autumn day in September year 1995. It was actually quite funny because the first time my dad saw me he turned to the nurse and asked if I was a human being or a monkey baby and if I was a monkey he would need to build a climbing wall in our house. I was covered in dark hair from head to toe and it took a few weeks before I started to look like a somewhat human baby. Still today, twenty two years later he is not sure. Although there might be a reason to why he calls me Mogli now and then.

I think my body is 50 % sciency things and 50 % made up from music. Music has always been a big part of my life and I have recently discovered that Swedish language sounds like singing according to my Australian friends. This year I have chosen to presume my dreams when it comes to music and at the moment I am studying a music diploma in music performance. My main instrument is my voice however I’m slowly learning how to play the ukulele and I am also furious to learn how to play the bass. I have never performed before and the only really experience with music is from me singing in the shower or in the car. I pretty much sing or hum all day long. So whenever you here a quite or even sometimes LOUD hum, I won’t be far off.

I ABSOLUTELY love my music course and every day I have butterflies in my stomach when I go to school. The same butterflies I get when I think about being at camp this summer. Ahh those beautiful butterflies. Speaking of butterflies, If I had to choose a animal to be it would definitely be a butterfly because they can fly up in the sky, they are so colourful and I also enjoy the fact that they are sleeping for a while before they are fully developed. Everyone loves a good rest, I am right?

Apart from music I play water polo and I have been doing that for 10 years now. Being active is something I really enjoy so apart from water polo I enjoy doing yoga, pilates, hike, horse riding and basically every activity you can come up with. I am always keen to try new things so if you ever need a buddy to try something new with you, you know where to find me! I also really enjoy just talking to people. Or if you ever need a good listener I am your person. Not once have a fallen asleep during a movie which is one of my bigger achievements in life haha.

I also love to get messy haha. It doesn’t matter if it is mud, tie dye or water. The messier, the better. I have some really fun(and messy) cabin actives I am excited to share with my campers and some awesome auction prizes I am looking forward to sharing with all the campers. Being messy and creative is definitely something I view myself as. I love to embrace mine and others creativity and make something magical happen together. The human imagination can go beyond everything and I encourage you to always keen dreaming and imagining things. You never get to old to dream! That is something the campers will experience with me; I am always dreaming big. Not only for me, but for them to. The sky is not the limit amigos.

I visited camp in the summer of 2016 for about a month and since leaving camp I always knew in my heart that I wanted to come back. I created some fantastic friendships with other counselors working there and I shared so many memorable memories with lots of campers.  I got to experience so much wish, wonder and surprise during my month there and I am beyond excited about creating magic with you guys during my summer at Camp Augusta. I want every day to be filled with laughs and jokes, challenges and new experiences and friendships and growth and I think that I can provide these things to you. When I was a girl scout a was announced the happiest girl in the group and I tend to rub my happiness onto everyone I met, for the rest of my life. If you ever are feeling a bit sad or just want to smile with someone, please come up to me and SMILE. I promise I will give you the biggest smile in return.

(Katie is another oakie you will have the pleasure to get to know and create crazy adventures together)

I am excited to met you all this summer, I can barley wait! I still have so much more fun to tell you and so much to learn from you as well. Next time you seen me, don’t hesitate to ask me about the story of my soft toy Horsie. Me and Horsie have been around the world together and there are a few crazy stories that we are happy to share with you.

I will be waiting for you with my fairy wings on and the biggest smile you have ever seen!
